NCAA Tournament: Biggest storylines for mid-major programs
The NCAA Tournament has a solid number of talented teams in this year’s field. Let’s take a look at the biggest storylines from the mid-major basketball ranks.
The most exciting storylines during the NCAA Tournament always come from the mid-major teams. Every year, there’s at least one or two teams that make their own Cinderella run during the NCAA Tournament. Last season, it was the Nevada Wolf Pack and Loyola-Chicago Ramblers who stole headlines with their performances.
This year, the headlines are driven by the Wolf Pack but also by Murray State Racers sophomore sensation Ja Morant. Morant isn’t the only mid-major star or storyline. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are back this year as a No. 1 seed in the West region. The Buffalo Bulls just keep on winning under head coach Nate Oats as one of the hottest mid-major squads coming into the NCAA Tournament.
Another hot team is the Wofford Terriers, a team that hasn’t lost a game since Dec. 4 coming into the tournament. Led by sharpshooter Fletcher Magee, they’re a team ready to show why they’re in the Big Dance. The field of 68 is finally set and despite some mid-major snubs, the storylines are ready to build upon themselves. A lot of teams are looking to turn their story into the Cinderella variety. Here’s a look at the biggest mid-major storylines heading into the NCAA Tournament.
