Virginia Tech Basketball: 5 coaching replacements for Buzz Williams
The worst kept secret is out now, Buzz Williams is headed to Texas A&M to take over the same position. Here’s a look at possible replacements for Virginia Tech Basketball.
Head coach Buzz Williams is slated to be announced as the head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies on Thursday, per John Rothstein. The Virginia Tech Basketball faithful have nothing to hang their heads about. Williams did a solid job with the program in a five-year window and with an opportunity to return to his alma mater, it’s almost too good to pass up.
He compiled a record of 100-69 with three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. He led the Hokies to their second ever appearance in the Sweet 16.
The lingering effects of his departure could have heavy implications on the future of Virginia Tech basketball, but Whit Babcock is a great athletic director who knows what he is doing. He made a home run hire when he brought Buzz Williams in back in 2014. Now, it’s up to him to work his magic once again and hire a new basketball coach for the Hokies.
There are some quality candidates out there that deserve a look. It’s something that will need to happen sooner rather than later given recruiting and transitioning to a new coaching staff. If they can hold onto incoming recruits and snag a few more, things could end on a bright note for the Hokies given the circumstances. Here’s a look at five possible replacements for Buzz Williams as Virginia Tech’s head coach.
