What Michigan State accomplished this season

The 2018-2019 Michigan State Basketball season is done as they advanced to the Final Four before a disappointing lose Texas Tech. Let’s take a look at the highlights, miss opportunities, and disappointments of the Spartan season.

Accomplishments

*32 wins

*Co-Big Ten Regular season Champions

*Big Ten Tournament Champions

*Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational Tournament Champions

*NCAA Tournament East Regional Champions

Key Victories:  Duke and LSU (NCAA Tournament), Florida (Road), Texas and UCLA (Las Vegas Invitational), Big Ten key wins: Michigan (three times), Iowa (Twice), Maryland (Once), Wisconsin (Twice), Minnesota (Twice), Purdue (Once), and Ohio State (three times).

Winning the Big Ten Regular Season Title along with Purdue and winning three straight games to claim the Big Ten Tournament Title is an accomplishment. Beating the #1 seed Duke to win the East Regional crown is something that any program should be proud of.  Michigan State going 6-0 against Michigan and Ohio State will help with recruiting in the future. However, not everything went well for the Spartans this Season.

There were missed opportunities and disappointments for Michigan State this season. Here is a look at what the Spartans didn’t do this year.

Disappointments

*Lost to Indiana Twice

*Illinois beat them in their only meeting of the season

*Lost to Purdue by 10 after beating the Boilermakers by 18 in their first meeting

*Texas Tech defeated them to deny them an opportunity to play for a national championship.

Missed Opportunities

*Losing by 5 to Kansas in the Championship Classic started the season on a sour note.

*In the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in overtime to Louisville slowed momentum that the Spartans were building.

*Losing to Indiana twice as well as losing on the road at Illinois may have been a reason Michigan State was denied a #1 see in the NCAA Tournament.
