Class of 2020 point guard Caleb Love has made the decision to play for UNC Basketball. How does this affect the Tar Heels and those who missed out?

It’s been a great past couple of weeks for UNC Basketball, landing their second five-star prospect in the span in Caleb Love. A consensus top-20 overall player, the 6’3 playmaker is one of the very best perimeter players in all of the 2020 recruiting class. He has all of the measurables of an elite starting point in college and eventually the pros while being a score-first ball-handler.

The recruitment for Love has gone as fast as his respective rise up the rankings. After announcing a final group of six teams, the five-star prospect made a big decision to cancel visits to once perceived favorites Kansas and Louisville, leaving just North Carolina and Missouri. Once that happened, the Tar Heels were viewed as a clear frontrunner for Love’s services.

But the Tigers shouldn’t have been counted out so early, with a great recruiter at the helm in Cuanzo Martin and being the de facto hometown program for the St. Louis native. In the end though, the official visit to Chapel Hill and with the coaching staff was just too much to turn away from.

Love choosing UNC Basketball isn’t the biggest surprise in the world for those who have been following the news this month but it’s still a big decision that will have an impact throughout NCAA Basketball for the next year on the recruiting trail.
