Florida Basketball: Are 2019-20 Gators already doomed with early struggles?
By Brian Rauf
Florida basketball has been the most disappointing team in the country through two weeks. Can the Gators fix the problems that have plagued them?
Though we’re only two weeks into the new season, Florida basketball has underperformed more than any other team in the country.
The Gators were ranked No. 6 in the preseason AP poll and were among the favorites to win the national championship, but have instead started 2-2 with uninspiring wins over North Florida and Towson to go with disappointing losses to Florida State and UConn.
Florida is not expected to be ranked when the new AP poll is released on Monday, marking a meteoric drop we rarely see. However, we did see something similar with a top 10 team last season in Villanova.
The Wildcats were ranked No. 9 in the preseason poll then yet disappointing loss to Michigan and Furman dropped them from the rankings entirely by Week 3. They ended up winning the Big East and made the second round of the NCAA Tournament, but the early returns for them were not good at all.
The good news for the Gators is that championships are awarded in March and April, not November, and they can get better. They’ll need to because they have a lot of problems they’ve shown they need to work through, but there are answers to some of those problems.
Here are the biggest problems facing Florida and how they can fix them.
