Michigan State Basketball dismantled Charleston Southern on Monday night giving the Spartans their third win of the year. What did this game tell us?

Charleston Southern, of the Big South, made the journey up to East Lansing for a Monday night match-up with #3 Michigan State Basketball. This game was only ever going to go one way and it was an absolute landslide win as Tom Izzo’s group annihilated the Buccaneers in a game that almost saw them score triple digits.

The final was 94-46 as the Spartans covered the thirty-five point spread with sheer ease on the back of a juggernaut second half offensive display which saw MSU score 54-points. Xavier Tillman led a Spartan offense that couldn’t be stopped, with 21 points. The rate at which they scored allowed Izzo to go deep into his bench and give a lot of them quality minutes. Fifteen Spartans saw the floor on the night, which is quite astonishing. Ten of which recorded double-digit minutes.

This was a great game on the schedule for MSU to find their rhythm and get in a great display on the offensive end, and they did just this. After a tough start to the year, as they fell to Kentucky and got a close win over Seton Hall, it was important to do to Charleston Southern what they did to Binghamton in game two. The Spartans‘ next two games see them go up against two ACC teams. They face Virginia Tech before taking on the giants in Duke. It’s clear that MSU has the talent and fire power to devour all the smaller teams that they come up against, but what they need to prove as a top seed is that they can go head-to-head and get wins against the big boys.

They’ll have plenty of chances to get big wins during the regular season as they take on Duke and the likes of Maryland down the stretch, but as long as they keep playing like they did last night then there’s no reason to doubt them. Here’s what to take away from their win over the Buccaneers:
