With five weeks down, let’s take a look at the top mid-major performances of the past week of NCAA Basketball action.

Best Performance, Team – Buffalo

In the first season of the post-Nate Oats era for Buffalo, the Bulls are not quite as dominant as they have been in recent years. But, the 2019-20 Bulls have started off this season pretty well so far, with their best win of the season coming on Sunday.

This week did not have any signature wins in the same league as Evansville over Kentucky or Stephen F. Austin over Duke, but it did give us Buffalo knocking the Big East’s DePaul off the list of unbeatens. DePaul had not faced the strongest schedule in the nation prior to the loss (they were unranked), but the win is still impressive for this version of Buffalo.

Without Oats, C.J. Massinburg, Nick Perkins, Jeremy Harris, and Dontay Caruthers, who all departed 30-win squad in the offseason, the Bulls went into Chicago and gave the Blue Demons their first loss of the year.

Jayvon Graves led Buffalo with 21 points and seven rebounds in the 74-69 win, while Davonta Jordan added a 12-9-8 -2-1 line. The Bulls will have an uphill battle to make their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last six seasons, but this squad still has some fight left in it.

Other Power-5 upsets include Charleston Southern at Missouri, Louisiana Tech at Mississippi State, San Francisco AND Santa Clara over Cal, and Western Kentucky over Arkansas in overtime. Sadly, the Hilltoppers lost star Charles Bassey for the season in the win.

Also, Furman nearly ended No. 12 Auburn’s unbeaten season in a two-point overtime thriller.
