Texas Basketball picked up one of their biggest recruits in program history on Friday, as top-ten power forward Greg Brown committed to the Longhorns. Here is why Brown makes Texas a championship contender.

Texas Basketball, as well as College Basketball as a whole, were in dire need of some good news on Friday,

Luckily that good news came, as Greg Brown, the top power forward and highest-ranked remaining recruit (9th-overall) in the country, committed to Shaka Smart and the Longhorns.

The news comes at the conclusion of a week filled with skepticism for the Longhorns and their fans, as Brown was reportedly offered a contract from the G-League worth up to $400,000 last week. Top recruits Jalen Green and Isaiah Todd were lured to the league just one week ago, leaving many to believe that Brown could follow suit and chase the money.

However, Brown held steady to what many had been predicting in the months leading up to his decision, ultimately choosing Texas over Auburn, Memphis, Kentucky, and Michigan.

The Longhorns, who were firmly on the bubble heading into the Big 12 Tournament, are expected to return all twelve players from last season’s team. Adding Brown, an immediate difference-maker and program-changing talent is a major get for Texas, who is certainly going to begin the season ranked in the Top-25.

How high is the Longhorns’ ceiling next season? I would say pretty darn high.

Let’s see why Brown lifts Texas from competitor to contender in 2021.
