Louisville guards not afraid to share the basketball

The biggest stat that stood out with the Louisville Cardinals in their 79-44 win over Evansville was: 19 assists. The Cardinals did well to share the basketball, while some oversharing was responsible for the slow start, but once they found their rhythm, they were hard to stop.

Louisville has a two-headed monster in the backcourt in Carlik Jones and Samuell Williamson. Jones joins the Cardinals’ ranks from Radford as a graduate transfer and was solid in his debut with 17 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists with just one turnover. Williamson filled the stat sheet up as well with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.

Sophomore David Johnson didn’t have the greatest game shooting-wise but he still managed to snag seven rebounds and dish out five assists.

Freshman Quinn Slazinski and J.J. Traynor combined for 21 points off the bench as well. Traynor posted 11 points and five rebounds while Slazinski posted 10 points and four rebounds while showing off his 3-point stroke.

As guys find ways to impact the game outside of scoring, this team has the potential to be very deep by the time the NCAA Tournament arrives.
