NCAA Basketball: Luka Garza, Drew Timme among top-10 POY contenders
A look at the NCAA Basketball Top 10 National Player of the Year contenders.
The 2020-21 NCAA Basketball season is underway and the National Player of the Year conversation has finally arrived. With a number of teams still unbeaten, players are making their cases for consideration as the top performers in an abbreviated season.
Some teams like Western Kentucky and big man Charles Bassey have taken some early losses to Power 5 competition that should make them better down the road. Bassey’s production hasn’t gone unnoticed though. He’s averaging 15.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per contest and coming off a 15-point, 11-rebound, and 5-block effort in a 75-54 loss to the Louisville Cardinals.
In regards to the National Player of the Year award, some talented names have made their mark on the 2020-21 season. The Gonzaga Bulldogs sit atop the AP Poll at No. 1 with a pair of frontcourt game-changers in Drew Timme and Corey Kispert. The Iowa Hawkeyes boast probably the top big man in this year’s NBA Draft in Luka Garza if all goes as it has been. Oklahoma State has a wildcard that could shake up the Big 12 Conference in Cade Cunningham.
It’s early in the college basketball season but there’s definitely a lot to look over when it comes to the National Player of the Year debate. Here’s a look at who made the final 10.
