The New Year is here and the NCAA basketball landscape continues to change as the Big Ten shines and more in the 8 biggest takeaways from this past week.

NCAA Basketball fans have gotten an early glimpse at some early upsets and a shift in the Power 5 power struggle heading into the New Year. In this week’s eight biggest takeaways, we take a look at a number of topics as the college basketball landscape continues to change given this year’s pandemic.

The Big Ten Conference remains the conference to keep an eye on as they boast eight teams in the recent Top 25 AP Poll. As bracketologists analyze and modify, it’s hard to imagine a solid number of teams making the NCAA Tournament from the Big Ten.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs remain the team to beat at the top of the AP Poll following a Saturday night victory over the San Francisco Dons. They’re the No. 2 scoring offense in NCAA basketball, averaging 95.1 points per contest through the first 10 games.

As far as conference battles go in the other Power 5 conferences, the ACC, Big 12 and SEC all look like they’ll be crowning a different champion this season with some unfamiliar names at the top of the conference standings, at least for now.

After that, we’ll take a look at an early Cinderella squad as March Madness approaches then take a look at a trio of freshmen that are performing well in the National Freshman of the Year race. Here’s a look at the eight biggest takeaways from Week 6.
