Big 12 Basketball: Did Kansas upset over Baylor shake the power rankings?
By Andrew Tineo
Previous Games: 75-72 win vs. Kansas, 59-68 loss at. Texas Tech
Next Games: at. Iowa State, at. TCU.
In a critical game for not only Texas for the season but the future of Shaka Smart, Texas was able to sweep Kansas. Texas is only the second team to sweep Kansas in the Bill Self era. The first one came from 2017-2018 Oklahoma State.
It was a poor offensive day, to say the least. The team as a whole shot 19% from beyond the arc and All-Big 12 candidate Andrew Jones made just one of his seven attempts in that area.
Who didn’t have a poor performance was Greg Brown.
Although only taking eight shots, he made the most of his chances with a 50/40/75 split and 13 points on four rebounds. The potential first-round pick has had his glimmering moments, with highlight-reel plays, led by posturizing dunks.
After a momentum-building win, Texas would run out of steam in Lubbock. Referees were not shy of making calls, as the teams combined for 43 fouls in the game. Jones and Courtney Ramey combined for 14 points on 3-18 from the field.
It was a gritty defensive game, as expected. However, Texas Tech was able to hit their free throws late, and Texas would finish with empty possessions.
Texas has a chance to finish the season strong, with two games they should be favorites in.
