Duquesne Basketball has had to rebuild its roster following several major departures from last season. How did the Dukes do?

Keith Dambrot has done a nice job in trying to rebuild the Dukes, but he will have his hands full this upcoming season following the departure of several key pieces from last year’s squad that went 9-9 overall and 7-7 in A-10 play. The Dukes lost seven of their top 11 players from a year ago.  Dambrot, who has a 65-47  record at Duquesne, has brought in seven newcomers including three freshmen.

7. Andy Barba, Cleveland (OH)

The 6-6 forward, a former Miami (OH) commit, is a sniper who gets into his shot quickly and has a nice shooting stroke. He can also create off the dribble. Barba has the potential to be a contributor down the road, much like Brett Rumple for St. Bonaventure, but he recently had back surgery so it may be quite a while before he is able to have a meaningful role.

6. Amir “Primo” Spears, Windsor (CT)

The 6-2combo guard is a two-way combo guard who possesses the quickness to create his own shot, the skill to defend at a high level, and the ability to score and fill up the stat sheet. Spears played this past season at Mt. Zion Prep in Maryland where he averaged 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.

Prep Hoops.com had this evaluation of Spears overall game

"“Spears’ decision making as both a scorer and passer fit the mold for what Division I programs seek in their guards. His toughness, willingness on defense, and communication on both ends are intangibles give even more reason why programs should be tracking him closely.”"
