Pac-12 Basketball: 10 key questions looming for 2021-22 season
4. How quickly can the Oregon Ducks mesh with newcomers?
The Oregon Ducks had a ton of success this past season, going 21-7 on the year and 14-4 in Pac-12 basketball action. Head coach Dana Altman seems to have found a formula to succeed, but with a ton of production to replace, can they do it again?
The Ducks had no problem winning the Pac-12 Conference Regular Season crown in 2020-21. They were the best 3-point shooting team in the league, shooting 37.7 percent from behind the arc and knocking down a league-best 8.4 3-pointers per contest.
Jacob Young (Rutgers) and De’Vion Harmon (Oklahoma) are a few of their newcomers in the backcourt out of the transfer portal. Young and Harmon will strengthen the backcourt with his ability to make plays and score in the backcourt.
Young posted 14.1 ppg, 3.4 apg , 1.9 rpg and 1.7 spg while shooting 36.9 percent from behind the arc with the Scarlet Knights this past season. Harmon averaged 12.9 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.0 apg and 1.1 spg while shooting 33 percent from 3-point land.
Quincy Guerrier (Syracuse) is another name to know after earning All-ACC honors this past season with 13.7 ppg, 8.4 rpg and 1.3 bpg. He’s a long, athletic forward with a ton of two-way promise.
Eric Williams will be back as their top returner but replacing Eugene Omoruyi and Chris Duarte will be no tall task. Both of them averaged roughly 17 ppg apiece to pace the Ducks offense this past season.
Coach Altman will need to find the team chemistry quickly with a ton of new faces in their rotation. If he can, the Ducks should be, at the very least, looking at an NCAA Tournament berth.
