Baylor Basketball: Analyzing Bears 2021 incoming recruiting class
2. Dale Bonner
Bonner makes the jump from Fairmont State (DII) to the Baylor basketball ranks where he’ll look to make a splash in the backcourt. He had a career sophomore season at the DII level, averaging 21. ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.5 apg while shooting 43.7 percent (45-of-103) from 3-point range.
At 6-foot-3, he’s shown he’s more than capable of creating in space and setting the tempo by getting rebounds on the defensive end. He dished out a career-high 11 assists this past season and knocked down a career-high 35 points on the road in a separate contest. He looks ready for a new challenge with Big 12 basketball on the horizon.
1. James Akinjo
Akinjo is an exciting 6-foot guard prospect to watch on both ends of the floor. He makes solid reads as a scorer and has good instincts as a defender on the floor, which can also excite the likes of Coach Drew.
Though he’s at his third school since 2018, he’s still shown he’s capable of making things happen on the floor. This past season, he produced 15.6 ppg, 5.4 apg, 2.3 rpg, and 1.4 spg while shooting 40.8 percent from 3-point range.
He was much improved shooting on the perimeter in 2020-21 with the Wildcats and looks to carry that over to the Bears. Coming off an All-Pac-12 first-team performance, Akinjo should turn heads in the Big 12 in 2021-22.
