Duke basketball found themselves in unfamiliar territory in 2020-21 as they finished 10th in the ACC (9-9) with an overall record of 13-11 by the season’s end. With a renewed focus and the Coach K Farewell tour on the horizon, things should go a lot different in 2021-22.

While they’ll be young in the backcourt, Duke basketball should have no issue in the frontcourt or in the paint with their returning cast of Wendell Moore, Mark Williams, and Joey Baker and the additions of Theo John, AJ Griffin, and highly-touted freshman Paolo Banchero.

Banchero is a name that fans will hear a lot of this season as he’s a highly-rated 2022 NBA Draft pick with a ton of potential on the floor as a creator in space and around the rim at 6-foot-10. He’s an intriguing name set to make his debut this season along with the rest of the 2021 recruiting class.

The addition of John gives them an experienced power forward that should strengthen their interior defense and potentially given them a 1-2 punch alongside Mark Williams. Size and talent on the roster are what should separate the Blue Devils from the rest of ACC basketball this year. Here’s a look at the projected starting lineup and depth chart for Duke basketball entering the 2021-22 season.
