Center

Lynn Kidd finds himself in an interesting position as Virginia Tech basketball’s lone center on the roster. At 6-foot-10, 240 pounds, he has an opportunity to take on a big role with some inexperience in the frontcourt.

He appeared in just 33 total minutes across seven games for Clemson basketball in 2020-21 before hitting the transfer portal. During his initial recruitment, the Hokies were one of a few teams that didn’t make the cut the first go around. Now, he looks to start anew.

Kidd’s job is a very simple one at the center spot in 2021-22. He’ll need to be an anchor on the defensive end, rebound the ball and fill the lane on the break. So long as he can do those things and stay out of foul trouble, he shouldn’t have a hard time finding a role for himself.

David N’Guessan and Jalen Haynes are two names that could find themselves replacing Kidd in the rotation if things don’t work out. N’Guessan’s ability to create on the perimeter holds the key here. If he can stay within the offense and use his size to affect the game, look for him to emerge at the 5-spot.

Haynes possesses a strong frame at 6-foot-8 and 260 pounds that should allow him to move around in the paint and act as a defensive anchor in the paint.
