Point Guard

Kihei Clark returns as one of the best defenders at the point guard slot in ACC basketball. He enters 2021-22 with a 96.7 defensive rating compiled across the past three seasons and with a more inside-out look to this squad, look for him to return to his usual self.

Clark produced 9.5 ppg, 4.5 apg and 2.0 rpg across 25 appearances (23 starts) at the point guard spot in 2020-21. While his scoring was down, he still raised his shooting to a career-high 41.1 percent from the field. Look for that to continue to grow.

He’s due to play heavy minutes as this is a UVA basketball squad that may have some growing pains in 2021-22. The bulk of their scoring, particularly on the perimeter, is gone so unless Clark has a career-year scoring, this could be an interesting season.

There’s room for another guard to break into the rotation with the departures of Casey Morsell and Thomas Woldentensae. Chase Coleman is a potential walk-on that could find his way into the fold as is Carson McCorkle.

Coleman appeared in five games in 2020-21 and McCorkle appeared in eight games. They’re two players who have yet to find a niche in games for this team, but there’s room for them to develop.
