Point Guard

Caleb Mills should be the lead guard for Florida State basketball after spending two seasons with the Houston Cougars. He was an AAC All-Freshman selection and second-team All-AAC performer in 2019-20, producing 13.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg, and 1.1 apg off the bench. As a reserve, he shot 36.5 percent from behind the arc while averaging 22.5 mpg.

Things hit a snag in 2020-21 with him appearing in just four games before hitting the transfer portal. He was originally named the AAC Preseason Player of the Year before deciding to head elsewhere. He’ll bring ballhandling, pace, and a solid scoring threat to the table with his addition to the Florida State backcourt.

RayQuan Evans and Jalen Warley will be the likely backups at the point guard spot. Both possess size at 6-foot-4 and 6-foot-6, respectively, and each brings an ability to contribute to the backcourt in 2021-22. Given Coach Hamilton’s tendency to play deep into the bench, look for each to get an opportunity to run the show.

Warley is a highly-rated 2021 recruit out of the much-heralded Westtown School in Pennsylvania. He’s a big combo guard at 6-foot-6, 200 pounds with an opportunity to boost this lineup in more ways than one with his length, athleticism, and playmaking ability.
