Marquette basketball will have a completely different look in 2021-22 with nine newcomers in Year 1 under new head coach Shaka Smart. Smart made the move to the surprise of many from Texas to Marquette after leading, arguably his best season with the Longhorns in 2020-21.

Smart will look to bring the magic he had at VCU to the Golden Eagles with a new start in the Big East. In his six seasons with the Rams from 2009-15, he made five NCAA Tournament appearances but with the Longhorns he made just three appearances in six seasons.

Here’s a look at the Marquette basketball 2021 recruiting class and their potential impact.

9. Stevie Mitchell

Stevie Mitchell joins Marquette basketball as quite the decorated prospect. He was named Pennsylvania’s Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year at Wilson High this past season while leading his squad to back-to-back county titles and their first-ever district crown in 2020-21.

He averaged 25.6 ppg as a senior, the most in the last 20 years while finishing his career-high with 2,060 points, the fourth-most all-time in the county. He’s a 6-foot-2 guard with a ton of promise controlling the pace at the floor general spot. With his instincts for getting to the rim and being a facilitator on offense, look for him to change the backcourt dynamic for the Golden Eagles.
