Gonzaga Basketball: Analyzing Bulldogs 2021 incoming recruiting class
2. Hunter Sallis
Hunter Sallis is the third freshman set to make a splash in the Gonzaga basketball lineup this season. He’s a big guard a 6-foot-5, 175 pounds that chose the Bulldogs over Nebraska, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, and a slew of others to head west to develop his game.
While he hasn’t gotten as much press as Holmgren, his potential as a playmaker and scorer is there. He averaged 22.2 ppg, 5.6 rpg, and 3.8 apg in 2020-21 and won a state title at Millard North in Nebraska.
He’s got the potential to make a splash whether in the starting lineup or as the proverbial Sixth Man off the bench given what he can do on the floor.
1. Chet Holmgren
Chet Holmgren is the final freshman to join the 2021-22 and he brings a ton of promise with him at 7-foot-1. He’s an emerging big man set to headline in the Gonzaga basketball rotation given his impact on the floor.
Holmgren is set to fill the void left by the departure of Cory Kispert (NBA) on the wing and then some at the hybrid forward spot. He’s a big man with a ton of ability handling the ball, defending multiple roles, and scoring on all three levels.
All NBA Draft eyes will be on him to compete at a high level as the Bulldogs look to make another run to the national title. Holmgren alongside Drew Timme should make quite the 1-2 punch in the paint this season as they look to dominate WCC basketball once again.
