It’s just three NCAA Basketball options for five-star power forward Dillon Mitchell. Which of them will land the major commitment?

Dillon Mitchell is a consensus five-star prospect in the 2022 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. 247sportsComposite has him ranked No. 28 overall and is one of the more well-rounded prospects in the entire group.

At 6’7 and 210 pounds, Mitchell is a natural wing that has the athleticism and speed to play and guard on the perimeter, while also having the size to be a possible small-lineup power forward option. His versatility and overall potential make him a big-time prospect and future NBA Draft pick candidate.

The recruitment for Mitchell has entered a new stage, as three programs are left in the running; Texas, Florida State, and Tennessee. All three programs and coaching staffs have great reputations in terms of recruiting so there’s a good chance that any one of the three can win out for Mitchell. But does one make better sense than the others? Here’s a closer look at how the five-star recruit would fit with each of them.

Florida State Seminoles

The Seminoles’ recent run of landing five-star prospects has put them in contention for several five-star prospects, with Mitchell the most likely target to obtain. With Anthony Polite entering his senior season, there’s a real good chance that Mitchell would come in and start at the wing his freshman year. And if Caleb Mills and incoming five-star freshman guard Matthew Cleveland stick around, that would be a pretty loaded roster for the 2022-23 campaign.

Tennessee Volunteers

The Vols have an incoming top-10 recruiting class for this season, led by five-stars Kennedy Chandler and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield. Both may be gone by the time Mitchell potentially arrives but only top-50 wing Jamal Mashack would be affected by this prospect’s arrival. Tennessee would hope that Mitchell ends up as a better offensive version of Josiah Jordan-James, a 6’7 guard that led the team in rebounding last season. There are a lot of moving pieces for the Vols but Mitchell would be joining a top-25 caliber roster in the SEC, which has been sending many players to the NBA Draft as of late.

Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns and new head coach Chris Beard already has a top-30 commit in the 2022 class in  Arterio Morris but after missing out on five-star shooting guard recruit Keyonte George to Baylor, have been looking for the next big get. This team has two small forwards on the roster, including senior transfer Timmy Allen and top-50 freshman Jaylon Tyson but could use another for depth purposes.

Considering how many transfers Texas brought in this past offseason, there’s no telling what the roster will look like if Mitchell commits here. But his option has great potential as long as no small forward transfer comes in a few months from now.
