UNC Greensboro basketball makes their return in 2021-22 after winning the Southern Conference basketball regular season and conference tournament crowns in 2020-21, but a new era begins under a new head coach this year.

Head coach Mike Jones takes over the reins on the sidelines after Wes Miller made the move to the Cincinnati Bearcats. His success from Radford basketball should carry him after compiling a record of 174-150 (.537). He’s shown he can build a program, winning a Big South Conference Tournament crown and two regular-season crowns in three of the past four seasons as a head coach.

Now, he’ll make the leap to the Southern Conference (SoCon) and look to lead a team that was on the rise under Miller, winning 20+ games in the past five seasons and making two NCAA Tournament appearances across the same span.

His first order of business will be replacing SoCon Player of the Year Isaiah Miller. With the additions of Dante Treacy (Robert Morris), De’Monte Buckingham (Cal-State Bakersfield), Jalen White (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi), and the return of three of five starters from a season ago, Jones has a good foundation to work with.

Expectations could be high for Jones, but that’s not always a bad thing. After all, they’ve already got their first commitment in their 2022 class from 3-star in-state prospect Donovan Atwell. So things are already moving in the right direction under him.

Here’s an early look at the season preview for UNC Greensboro basketball in 2021-22.
