Potential starting lineup
Point Guard – Dante Treacy, Senior
Dante Treacy finds his way in the UNC Greensboro basketball rotation after three seasons in the Robert Morris rotation. He isn’t quite the lead guard that Isaiah Miller was from an athletic standpoint, but he’s got a high IQ for shooting the 3-ball and distributing the ball.
He put up 5.9 ppg, 3.5 apg, 2.8 rpg, and 1.1 spg while shooting 35 percent from the floor and 41.5 percent from the field in 83 appearances (51 starts). If he can limit his turnovers and run the show offensively, he should be a solid addition to the lineup.
Guard – Keyshaun Langley, Junior
Keyshaun Langley should help in the backcourt as a playmaker and potential all-league defender for UNC Greensboro basketball. He returns as their top leading scorer after producing 10.0 ppg, 3.4 apg, 1.8 rpg and 1.1 spg while shooting 32.2 percent from 3-point land.
He’ll take some pressure off Treacy in the backcourt given his ability to score and distribute and will apply his own brand of pressure on the defensive end of the ball, which should keep his minutes high under Coach Jones’ defensive-minded style of play.
Guard/Wing – Kaleb Hunter, Grad. Student
Kaleb Hunter returns in 2021-22 to make his third straight appearance as a full-time starter in the rotation. He’ll look to bounce back after a rough go of things during the “pandemic” season.
He’s a 6-foot-4 prospect with room to break out in the rotation with the departure of Miller. He averaged 8.6 ppg and 3.8 rpg in 28 appearances (26 starts) this past season while shooting career lows from the field and from 3-point range. With a full offseason and a new head coach, he should right the ship, so to speak, with better efficiency.
Forward – Khyre Thompson, Junior
Khyre Thompson enters his third season in the UNC Greensboro rotation and has the potential to slide into the rotation and give them a nice post presence with potential on both ends of the floor to make an impact.
He averaged 3.7 ppg and 3.2 rpg off the bench this past season while averaging 13.5 minutes of action across 30 games. One key stat to keep an eye on is his defensive rating. He generated a 98.6 defensive rating off the bench in 2020-21.
Center – Mohammed Abdulsalam, Senior
Mohammed Abdulsalam looks to end things on a high note in his senior season with the Spartans. He showed his growth moving into the starting lineup in 2020-21 and showed his efficiency around the rim as well.
The 6-foot-9 big man fared well in their rotation as a starter this past season. He averaged 6.6 ppg and 6.9 rpg and shot 51.3 percent from the field across 30 appearances, all as a starter while generating a 94.5 defensive rating in 2020-21. He’s set to make quite a frontcourt piece alongside Thompson in 2021-22.
