Alonzo Verge Jr. (Arizona State) and C.J. Wilcher (Xavier) are two new faces out of the transfer portal set to make their debut in the Nebraska basketball lineup. Verge is the leading name to start at the 2-spot, given his experience with the Sun Devils.

The 6-foot-2 guard spent the past two seasons at Arizona State, where he’s compiled 14.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.9 apg and 1.3 spg while shooting 31.2 percent from the 3-point line and 31.7 percent from the field.

He’s worked his way up the ranks in Pac-12 basketball play, winning the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2019-20 before making 21 starts across 23 appearances and averaging a career-high 3.9 apg in 2020-21. With experience already with a starting role, he’ll be a plug-and-play type of guy with the ability to rebound and make plays on both ends of the floor.

Wilcher is a guard that will give them size off the bench at 6-foot-5. He posted 3.3 ppg and 1.1 rpg through 15 appearances for Xavier in 2020-21 before hitting the transfer portal. He’ll look to find his footing with the Cornhuskers.

Quaran McPherson is another new face that should carve a role for himself in the rotation as a reserve. He’s a 6-foot-3 guard who spent the 2020-21 season at Link Year Prep (MO), posting 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists per contest. He’s another big guard with playmaking potential that fits their style of play.
