Stanford basketball looks to make some noise in Pac-12 basketball this year as the pressure’s on for Jerod Haase to earn his first NCAA Tournament bid as a head coach.
Things seemed to have stalled for Coach Haase and Stanford basketball across the past three seasons. They’ve finished at .500 or below in Pac-12 basketball action as they look to a rejuvenated attack led by a pair of highly-rated freshmen recruits.
The Cardinal will lose two of their top three scorers from a season ago in Oscar Da Silva and Ziaire Williams are gone, but Jaiden Delaire and Spencer Jones will be looked upon to take over things for Stanford basketball. There will be plenty of experience returning as those two names compile 12 returners listed on the roster with four newcomers in their 2021 recruiting class.
Depth shouldn’t be an issue for Stanford basketball, that’s for sure. While they went 14-13 in 2020-21 and finished sixth in the Pac 12 standings, things should improve from an overall team standpoint with this group given the experience and added depth in the 3-point shooting department.
As he enters his sixth year on the sideline, expectations are rising for Haase and his squad and while he’s fielded competitive squads, this season, look for his team to turn a corner. If not, Stanford could be the latest squad to find themselves on the coaching carousel.
