Georgetown Basketball: 2021-22 season preview and outlook for Hoyas
2021-22 season outlook
While expectations aren’t exactly high, another Cinderella run to the NCAA Tournament isn’t completely out of the equation for Georgetown basketball in 2021-22. They’ll have holes to fill in the frontcourt with the departures of Jamorko Pickett, Chudier Bile, and Qudus Wahab (Maryland) but, with a slew of newcomers to work with, Coach Ewing shouldn’t have an issue at least meeting the challenge.
Dante Harris and Donald Carey will have help in the backcourt with Aminu Mohammed, Kaiden Rice, Jordan Riley, and Tyler Beard. In the frontcourt, they won’t have much depth with just Ryan Mutumbo down low to work alongside Timothy Ighoefe and Malcolm Wilson but being able to rotate them in the lineup is equally rewarding.
If Georgetown basketball can avoid starting the season 3-8 as they did a season ago, they could see a postseason invite extended in the form of an NIT bid on the horizon in 2021-22.
Their non-conference schedule favors a strong start with just three Power 5 conference teams on the slate. They’ll need to prove they can hang with the likes of Xavier, Villanova, and Seton Hall in Big East play, but Coach Ewing has already proven he can beat them with an NCAA Tournament bid on the line.
