With the NCAA basketball season right around the corner, the Associated Press Top 25 Preseason Poll has been released and as it always does, it’s produced some interesting takeaways.

The No. 1 spot is owned by none other than Gonzaga basketball. After a dominating display in the 2020-21 season, losing their only game of the season in the National Championship, the Bulldogs return Drew Timme and Andrew Nembhard while adding Rasir Bolton and top 2021 big man and potential top lottery pick Chet Holmgren in the fold for the 2021-22 campaign. They should play an exciting brand of basketball once again this year.

The Top 10 of the AP Poll features three teams from Big 12 basketball, two from Big Ten basketball, but outside of that, there’s a ton of variety from the NCAA basketball ranks with one team each from the Big East, Pac-12, ACC, SEC and Pac-12 basketball conferences.

Last year’s national champion, Baylor, finds themselves at No. 8 in the rankings, which is an interesting spot to be in with the loss of four starters.

There’s a lot to take in from the release of the rankings and it’s a sign that lets fans know that a new season is right around the corner. Here’s a look at the takeaways from the release of the preseason AP Top 25 poll.
