2021-22 season outlook

It’s not exactly NCAA Tournament or bust for Butler basketball just yet with another season approaching for head coach LaVall Jordan. Jordan has led the Bulldogs to just one NCAA Tournament appearance across four seasons, but the Covid-19 pandemic and injuries derailed what was a potentially promising season for them in 2020-21.

They put together a 22-9 record in 2019-20 and finished fifth in the Big East basketball standings under Jordan and were a potential NCAA Tournament team before things were canceled due to the pandemic. As things look to return to normal, look for the Bulldogs to finish in a much more promising position in the conference and at the very least, be a top squad in the NIT field by the season’s end.

They could potentially be a team that finds themselves on the “bubble”, but with Villanova, UConn, Seton Hall and St. John’s to compete with for an at-large bid, things could get difficult for them. After all, last season Georgetown stole the conference’s automatic bid by winning the conference tournament in 2021.

Butler basketball will look to get back to it’s winning ways and it’s non-conference schedule helps a bit. With veterans and experience throughout the rotation, the Bulldogs could surprise some teams in the conference when January arrives. Look for this group to hold darkhorse NCAA potential.
