Projected starting lineup
Point Guard – Remy Martin, Senior
Remy Martin finds himself on a bigger landscape with Kansas basketball after terrorizing the Pac-12 for four seasons. He’ll bring quite the tenacity to both ends of the floor with his ability to defend and make plays with the ball in his hands. He averaged 19.1 ppg, 3.7 apg, 2.8 RPG, and 1.2 spg this past season while shooting 34.6 percent from behind the arc and 43.3 percent from the field.
Martin has grown over the years and with more talent and size on the floor around him, he’s set to grow even more at the lead guard role for the Jayhawks.
Guard – Ochai Agbaji, Senior
Ochai Agbaji returns after leading the Jayhawks in scoring in 2020-21 with 14.1 ppg. He also averaged 3.7 rpg 1.9 apg and 1.1 spg. He’ll be quite the 1-2 combination at the off-guard spot with Remy Martin running the show.
Agbaji appeared in all 30 games as a starter this past season. He’s a capable scorer at 6-foot-5 and can knock down the 3-ball as he did to the rate of 37.7 percent and a team-best 2.6 3-point makes in 2020-21.
Wing/Guard – Christian Braun, Junior
Christian Braun is another returner that’s set to turn a corner for Kansas basketball in 2021-22. He averaged 9.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.9 apg, and 1.2 spg while shooting 34 percent from behind the arc.
Braun is the only other player who started in all 30 games this past season. With a playmaker like Remy Martin on the floor this year, look for his production to rise as a threat on the perimeter.
Forward – Jalen Wilson, Soph.
Jalen Wilson is set to contribute once again at the stretch-forward spot. He was another double-figure scorer in their lineup that put up 11.8 ppg, 7.9 rpg, and 2.0 apg while showing off his prowess at the forward spot.
He started in 26 of the 29 appearances he made this past year, showing off his ability to score off the bounce and around the rim. He’ll be quite the frontcourt face alongside David McCormack.
Center – David McCormack, Senior
David McCormack returns to the Kansas basketball lineup after testing the NBA Draft waters alongside Jalen Wilson. He produced 13.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.1 apg, and 1.0 bpg as a presence on the interior.
McCormack will need to bring a lot more energy in 2021-22 for the Jayhawks to get over the proverbial hump this season. It helps he’s already an efficient shooter after going 51.5 percent from the field as a junior.
