2021-22 season outlook

Louisville basketball will need to peak at the right time in 2021-22 or they could find themselves in familiar territory once again as a group. They’ll have to rebuild their backcourt once again but with two playmakers at their disposal, things could end on a much higher note.

They had a strong start to the 2020-21 season but they limped their way to the finish line. They started their non-conference slate at 6-1 and won their first four conference games before losing five of their final nine games and falling out of the NCAA Tournament picture.

The Cardinals have a solid core of returners back in Withers, Williamson, and Davis. If they can jell with their new guards in Mason Faulkner and Jarrod West, they’re a squad that could be in ACC basketball’s top-tier.

They were a solid defensive squad, finishing 4th in scoring defense (66.5 points allowed per game) and they have the pieces to maintain the same defensive prowess. They’ll just need things to carry over to the offensive end of the floor and stay healthy while doing so.

Head coach Chris Mack will have his work cut out for him as he looks to get his squad back to the NCAA Tournament in his fourth season on the sidelines.
