LSU Basketball: 2021-22 season preview and outlook for Tigers
Key reserves
Guard – Eric Gaines, Soph.
Gaines gives LSU basketball another guard to rely on in the backcourt off the bench after appearing in all 29 games in 2020-21. He put up 2.5 ppg, 1.4 rpg, and 1.2 apg in 2020-21 across 13.4 minutes per contest. He’ll look to be a veteran presence in their young backcourt in 2021-22.
Forward/Center – Tari Eason, Soph.
Eason will add some experience and depth in the LSU basketball frontcourt and he’s a solid backup plan to have if Reid isn’t ready to go for their season opener. He’s a 6-foot-8 big man that put up 7.3 ppg, 5.9 rpg and 1.3 bpg in his debut season to earn All-AAC Freshman honors. He’s another frontcourt name to know for this squad.
Forward/Wing – Alex Fudge, Frosh.
Fudge is a long, wiry prospect at 6-foot-5 that should be a promising face on the wing for LSU basketball. He fared well in their exhibition game against Nicholls, showing he can run the floor and crash the glass, two much-needed skills this upcoming year. He had 12 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
Forward – Shareef O’Neal, Soph.
O’Neal is a prospect that should continue to develop in the frontcourt off the bench. He posted 2.8 ppg and 4.4 rpg across 10 appearances in 2020-21 before his season was cut short due to injury. He’ll look to stay healthy and be a contributor in 2021-22.
Center – Jerrell Colbert, Frosh.
Colbert will be the second center off the bench and should expect to see minutes if guys get in early foul trouble. He’s another young prospect at 6-foot-10 out of Tennessee that attended Houston High with good potential.
