Improvements in a variety of areas
Michigan State shot better from the free throw line in comparison to their last game by a good margin, they shared the ball that lead to many assists than they did from their season opener, and their bench play continues to improve.
In Michigan State’s loss to No. 3 ranked Kansas, the Spartans shot only 56.3 % from the free throw line. The Spartans also had only 12 assists and turned the ball over 16 times against the Jayhawks. Michigan State’s bench continued to impress as Hoggard had 17 and Marble 13 points against Kansas and the Spartans bench didn’t put up an eye-popping total number of points against the Broncos but more players contributed in their win over Western Michigan.
On their home court, against a non-ranked team, the Spartans look more confident and relaxed. Michigan State was not amazing from the free throw line but they improved, the Spartans didn’t have a ton more assists from their last game but they shared the ball more and got more players involved in the offense. The Spartans shot 75% from the free throw on 24 attempts, they had a total of 19 assists with 13 total turnovers, and the bench had a total of 34 points.
The Michigan State Spartans made improvements and they had measurable gains in multiple areas. The bench has demonstrated that they proved quality depth, the free throw shooting should continue to improve, and the Spartan guards should still continue to grow and be a very productive unit. A 44 point victory is a great start and the Spartans gave the home crowd many reasons to cheer.
