Bracketology 2022: Who are the projected No. 1 seeds?
The month of February is shaping up to bring some excitement to NCAA basketball fans. Take an early look at some Bracketology projected No. 1 seeds in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
South: Auburn Tigers (22-1)
Auburn basketball has proven to be the best team in college basketball, so far, anyway. The Tigers are the No. 1 team in NCAA basketball and have been one of the more exciting teams to watch this season. They’re 12-1 against teams in the first two quadrants with just one loss against a Quadrant I squad in UConn in a double-overtime thriller back on Nov. 24.
Since then, they haven’t lost a game with Jabari Smith II, Wendell Green Jr., Walker Kessler, and K.D. Johnson leading the charge for them. They’ll have a big game coming up on the road against Arkansas on Tuesday night. For now, they’re a top seed in the NCAA Tournament.
West: Gonzaga Bulldogs (19-2)
Gonzaga basketball is another squad that looks poised for the NCAA Tournament. They aren’t the only team to watch from WCC basketball but they’re one of the top seeds and riding a 12-game winning streak into the final six conference games of the regular season. Their record is 7-2 against teams in the first and second Quadrants with just two losses against Quadrant I squads.
Top NBA Draft pick Chet Holmgren has come on strong as has the play of Andrew Nembhard, Drew Timme, and Julian Strawther. The Bulldogs could be an early Final Four favorite before long heading into the final month.
Midwest: Purdue Boilermakers (20-3)
Purdue basketball is second in the Big Ten basketball standings but Jaden Ivey has them on the right trajectory with Zach Edey, Sasha Stefanovic, and Mason Gillis at his disposal. The Boilermakers’ status in the standings adds a ton of importance to their meeting against Illinois on Tuesday night.
Purdue boasts one of the best offenses in NCAA basketball (4th in the nation @ 84.5 ppg) and with a ton of experience, they could go far in this year’s NCAA Tournament field as a potential No. 1 seed. They’ll need to defeat the Fighting Illini on Tuesday night first, though.
East: Kansas Jayhawks (19-3)
Kansas basketball proved themselves this past Saturday evening with a convincing 83-59 victory over Baylor but they can’t relax too much with Texas on the slate Monday night. The Jayhawks hold sole possession of the conference lead at 8-1 heading into the final month. While they’re 12-3 against squads in Quadrant I and Quadrant II, with a loss to a second quadrant team, the emergence of Jalen Wilson is what should have fans excited about the potential of March.
Kansas basketball is showing they’re another early Final Four favorite after their performance against the Bears.
