The transfer portal is slowing down. The coaching carousel has ground to a halt. NBA Draft decisions are being made. All of it makes it the perfect time to evaluate the winners and losers of the 2022 NCAA Basketball offseason.

Naming the losers of the offseason is almost always an exercise in futility. Things are almost never as bad as they look for programs with big departures or misses on the recruiting trail, as we all discover when the games tip off next season.

Still, this is the time when possibility and promise percolate for many. No coach is going to say things look worse for their team after the offseason, but that doesn’t make it any less true for these programs.

Earlier this week, we went through some of the early winners of the offseason. These are the 15 programs that improved in big ways in the offseason, accomplishing goals that set them up for success in the near future.

On the other side of the spectrum are teams that missed the boat on big transfers and recruits, or saw some of the best players leave through the draft or graduation. Maybe there was even a coaching shakeup that creates questions about the direction of the program.

There’s still time for these teams to turn around their springs and summers. As it stands, however, there’s some work to be done to recover from the silly season, saddling them with stressful situations ahead.

Here are five losers from the college basketball offseason … so far.
