Big Ten Basketball: Top impact transfer for each team for 2022-23 season
Sam Griesel, 6’6 Point Guard, Nebraska Cornhuskers
The Nebraska Cornhuskers reeled in three players out of the transfer portal as they look to improve things after a 10-22 season under head coach Fred Hoiberg. One of those names is North Dakota State hybrid guard Sam Griesel.
Griesel became a household name across his four seasons (2018-22) with North Dakota State, appearing in 99 games (87 starts) and producing 9.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg, and 2.3 apg on 44.2 percent shooting from the field and 37.9 percent from 3-point range.
In his second season, he took over the point guard role this past season, which, if he can accomplish that with Nebraska, should bring about some matchup problems that they could benefit from. He averaged double-figures in scoring in the past two seasons, including a career-high 14.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg, and 3.4 apg in 2021-22 while also knocking down a career-best 22 3-pointers.

His development over the past two years has catapulted him into the Big Ten ranks. Given his versatility and ability to make things happen, he’ll have a chance to turn the culture around in Lincoln at the point guard spot. With Trey McGowens back from injury, they’ve got some pieces in place to be a lot better than they were last season.
