Tanner Holden, 6’6 Guard/Forward, Ohio State Buckeyes

Tanner Holden became an overnight celebrity in the NCAA Tournament this past season with Wright State. In the First Four, he exploded for 37 points and 11 rebounds on 11-of-15 shooting from the field in a victory over the Bryant Bulldogs. He used that success to put his name in the transfer portal and soon thereafter, he landed in the Big Ten with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Holden was a two-time first-team All-Horizon League selection in 2020-21 and 2021-22, showing off his ability to be a burden off the bounce and on the glass. He led the league in total points (723) and finished fourth in total rebounds (257) this past season while showing off his ability to get to his spots and finish in the paint.

He put up 20.1 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 2.6 apg, and 1.4 spg across 36 appearances (all starts) this past season. He hasn’t fallen in love with the 2-point shot entirely, he can knock down the 3-ball, shooting 14-of-41 (34.1 percent) from 3-point range.

Holden willl have an opportunity to fill a void left by the departures of E.J. Liddell and Malaki Branham to the NBA, though there are a few other names out of the portal joining him; Sean McNeil (West Virginia) and Isaac Likekele (Oklahoma State).
