Big Ten Basketball: Top impact transfer for each team for 2022-23 season
Andrew Funk, 6’5 Guard, Penn State Nittany Lions
Year 2 for head coach Micah Shrewsberry will see the return of Jalen Pickett and Seth Lundy and the transfer portal saw them acquire three new faces, including former Bucknell sharpshooter Andrew Funk, as he looks to turn a corner in the Big Ten ranks.
Funk finished 2021-22 as an All-Patriot League performer with the Bucknell Bison while putting up career-high numbers across the board. He averaged 17.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and 3.0 apg across 32 games (all starts) for the Bison, shooting 36.3 percent from the 3-point arc as well.
Despite going 9-23, Funk was one of the lone bright spots on the offensive end for Bucknell this past year and by the end of the season, he was in the transfer portal and headed to the Big Ten to make his way as a graduate transfer.
As a new face in the Nittany Lions’ rotation, Funk will look to turn the dynamic around for a team that shot just 34.3 percent from 3-point land good for ninth in the conference in 2021-22. Bringing last year’s second-place finisher in 3-pointers made (87) from the Patriot League should help improve things offense.
He should also help in the playmaking department. He finished ninth in the conference this past season in total assists (97) as well.
