Big Ten Basketball: Top impact transfer for each team for 2022-23 season
David Jenkins Jr., 6’2 Guard, Purdue Boilermakers
The Purdue Boilermakers could go through some growing pains in 2022-23, but they did manage to make one addition to their roster out of the transfer portal with former Utah guard David Jenkins Jr. The top scorer from last season is off to the NBA in Jaden Ivey as is their catalyst in the paint in Trevion Williams, but Zach Edey is back as is Mason Gillis.
It will be stop number four for Jenkins, who’s spent time at South Dakota State (2017-19), UNLV (2019-21), and Utah this past season. To put it in perspective, he’s appeared in a total of 125 games (83 starts) while averaging 14.9 ppg, 2.7 rpg, and 1.4 apg as quite the 3-point marksman.
Jenkins has shot 41.3 percent in his career, knocking down 2.6 3-pointers per contest across the same span. He’ll look to fill the hole left by the departure of Sasha Stefanovic, who shot 38 percent from 3-point range on 2.4 3-point makes per game in 2021-22.
Edey and Gillis will be set to play bigger roles on offense while Jenkins can be a veteran that plays a key role in the backcourt and on the perimeter scoring front.
