Nelly Cummings, 6’0 Point Guard, Pittsburgh Panthers

Colgate was one team in last year’s NCAA Tournament that gave Wisconsin an early scare in the first round before falling 67-60 in the end. The Pittsburgh Panthers have acquired some of that magic for their 2022-23 roster out of the transfer portal in 6-foot floor general Nelly Cummings.

Cummings will have an opportunity to turn things around in the Pittsburgh Panthers’ backcourt after finding success in the Patriot League. He put up 14.7 ppg, 3.4 apg, 3.0 rpg, and 1.1 spg while shooting 36 percent from 3-point land in 2021-22.

In the near upset against Wisconsin, Cummings was a top performer that put together 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists across 34 minutes of action. After showing he could bring his A-game against Power 5 competition, he’s set to make waves in the ACC with the Panthers.

He’ll have the core of John Hugley (14.8 ppg) and Jamarius Burton (12.4 ppg) to rely on offense while still being able to speed by defenders and make things happen off the bounce and on the perimeter. Nike Sibande will also be back from injury as well.

Hopefully, timing is everything as the Panthers also added highly-rated prospect Dior Johnson to their 2022 recruiting class to strengthen their backcourt even more heading into Jeff Capel’s fifth season.
