Mounir Hima, 6’11 Center, Syracuse Orange

Mounir Hima is the lone addition for the Syracuse Orange out of the transfer portal from the Duquesne Dukes in the Atlantic 10. He’ll take a gamble on himself in joining the ACC ranks with the Orange after a pedestrian freshman season in 2021-22.

Hima posted just 1.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 1.0 bpg across 21 appearances (5 starts) in 9.6 minutes per contest in 2021-22. He’ll look for a fresh start in upstate New York where he’ll look to use his length to make an impact.

He’s shown flashes of what he can do when he’s on the floor this past season with a five-block effort against Saint Louis back on Jan. 29 and a 10-rebound effort against Davidson on Feb. 23 but what didn’t help was they finished with a 6-24 overall record.

The 6-foot-11 big man could benefit greatly from the 2-3 zone defense that the Orange and Coach Boeheim run in the ACC as a potential rim protector and paint presence on the interior in 2022-23.

The Orange will have to rely on some break-out power this upcoming season with the losses of Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim and sharpshooter Cole Swider with the return of Joe Girard III, Jesse Edwards and Benny Williams.
