Grant Basile, 6’9 Forward/Center, Virginia Tech Hokies

The Virginia Tech Hokies and Mike Young got a potential replacement for Keve Aluma when they went into the transfer portal and came out with Wright State star Grant Basile. Basile was the 2022 Horizon Tournament MVP after a stellar conference tournament performance and followed that up with 14 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks against Bryant and 21 points, five rebounds, and three blocks against Arizona in the NCAA Tournament.

After putting his name in the transfer portal, Basile lands at Virginia Tech where he’ll look to add another playmaker in the frontcourt alongside Justyn Mutts. Basile averaged a career-high18.4 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, and 1.6 bpg in 2021-22, shooting 49.8 percent from the field and 28.3 percent from 3-point range.

The 6-foot-9 big man has shown he can step out and operate on the perimeter and be a presence in the paint with his frame at 225 pounds, something that should give the Hokies’ frontcourt an edge this upcoming season.

He snagged a career-high 11 double-doubles in 2021-22 and with an elevation in the competition in the ACC, he’ll be looked upon to put together another career season in the production department in 2022-23 with the Hokies.
