Jao Ituka, 6’1 Guard, Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Jao Ituka made quite the impression at Marist in his lone season, taking home MAAC Rookie of the Year honors after pouring in 15.3 ppg along with 3.1 rpg and 1.6 apg on 52.6 percent from the field and 41 percent from the arc. After putting his name in the transfer portal, he’ll look to take things over from where Alondes Williams left things with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Ituka has the potential to lead the Wake Forest backcourt with his ability to attack the basket and knock down shots on the perimeter when needed as a prototypical big guard at 6-foot-1 and 196-pounds. He isn’t easy to stop from getting downhill and he showed he could get to the free-throw line this past season finishing sixth in the MAAC in free-throw attempts (142).

In his best outing of the season, he put up a career-high 34 points back on Dec. 18, 2021 in a 84-79 overtime victory over Boston University on 11-of-14 shooting from the field and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line while coming off the bench.

The Steve Forbes era is trending in the right direction and Ituka’s addition out of the transfer portal looks to build on that after his squad finished fifth in the ACC standings this past season.
