Ja’von Franklin, 6’7 Forward, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Ja’von Franklin’s addition to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fills an immediate need in the frontcourt for head coach Josh Pastner and company. The transfer portal import out of South Alabama was an All-Sun Belt third-team performer in 2021-22 with the Jaguars, appearing in 32 games (31 starts) while producing 12.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.4 bpg, and 1.3 spg while shooting 65.5 percent from the field.

Franklin is a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward that’s learned to make his presence felt on the interior on both ends of the floor after making quite a few stops already in his college journey. He began his career at Holmes Community College in Mississippi before making the leap to the SEC with Auburn Tigers from 2019-21 where he appeared in 28 contests and averaged just 1.0 ppg and 1.4 rpg.

After finding his confidence in the Sun Belt Conference and posting a career-high eight double-doubles, Franklin will look to make a strong return to Power 5 play in the Yellow Jackets’ frontcourt. He’ll need to use his length to show he can be a factor on the interior, where his presence will be much-needed.

Georgia Tech finished 10th in the ACC in rebounds per game (33.0) and 12th in blocks per game (2.6) this past season. His addition should boost their profile on the inside as much as the presence of scrappy guard Lance Terry (Gardner-Webb) in the backcourt for this squad. Look for their two names to play a role in the Yellow Jackets’ success.
