Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, 6’10 Forward, Louisville Cardinals

There will be a lot of eyes on the Louisville Cardinals this season as the Kenny Payne era kicks off in 2022-23. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield is the lone addition to the Louisville Cardinals out of the transfer portal. He joins the Cardinals’ rotation after spending his first college season in the SEC with the Tennessee Volunteers.

Huntley-Hatfield put up 3.9 ppg and 2.9 rpg across 12.5 minutes per game, appearing in 35 games (13 starts) in 2021-22. He got lost a bit in the rotational shuffle with the Volunteers and as a result, he’s relocated to the ACC, where he’ll look to fill a void at the forward spot.

With the departure of guys like Malik Williams, Dre Davis and Samuell Williamson, there’s room for Huntley-Hatfield to work his 6-foot-10 skillset into their roster. He’ll have to battle for minutes with the likes of returning castmates Sydney Curry and Roosevelt Wheeler but there’s certainly room for him to make an impact.

It all truly depends on how Coach Payne uses his new recruits in Kamari Lands and Devin Ree alongside Huntley-Hatfield. They comprise their entire 2022 recruiting class thus far with a nice core of veterans returning in El Ellis and Jae’Lyn Withers, who are both due to break out in 2022-23. Huntley-Hatfield has the potential to be on that list as well.
