8. Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State lost several key pieces from last season, including leading scorer Gabe Brown, starting wing Max Christie, and starting center Marcus Bingham. And the answer from the team in the portal was.. nothing. The only known effort that was made was in Oakland forward Micah Parrish, who ultimately went to San Diego State.

That puts a ton of pressure onto incoming freshmen, Tre Holloman and Jaxon Kohler, to have a massive impact next season. If they don’t there’s a legit chance that this team could be on the wrong side of the bubble next season. With open spots at center and wing, it’s a mystery why the staff wasn’t more aggressive in the portal.

7. Ohio Bobcats

The two best players for the Bobcats didn’t go pro but rather transferred out in Mark Sears (Alabama) and Jason Vander Plas (Virginia). That’s a massive blow for the program and puts them into a position of having to rebuild, with no returning player averaging more than 7.0 ppg.

The hope is that transfers Jaylin Hunter and Gabe Wiznitzer can have anywhere near the impact for Ohio next season, in a MAC that outside of Kent State is vulnerable. But if these newcomer transfers don’t take leading roles, the Bobcats could take a big step back.
