NCAA Basketball: 10 best players from state of Alabama of last decade
By Joey Loose
9. Joshua Langford – Michigan State
If everything had gone according to plan, perhaps Langford would have been even higher on this list. The 6’5 guard from Huntsville arrived at Michigan State in 2016 but saw his career altered by a foot injury he suffered halfway through his junior year. The injury required surgery, which knocked him out for the following season, though he did finally return to the court in 2020 for one last year in East Lansing.
A former top recruit, Langford started all but nine games in his career with the Spartans. Before his injury, he averaged 15.0 points per game during his junior year and was certainly an important piece for Michigan State on both sides of the ball. He had scored in double digits in every game of that season before his injury, including a career-high 29 points in a win against Texas. Among his other highlights was a 22-point effort against Bucknell in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Langford returned to the court nearly two years after his foot injury, and although he didn’t play the same impact role on offense, was still a valuable member of a talented Spartans squad. Overall, Langford was a talented shooter, especially from mid-range, and played an important role on some of Tom Izzo’s most recent Michigan State teams, even when his injuries kept him off the court.
