SEC Basketball added a lot of mid-major stars from a season ago to the fold for the 2022-23 NCAA basketball season. Take a look at each team’s top addition heading into a new year, which should bring even more excitement.

Mark Sears, 6’1 Point Guard, Alabama Crimson Tide

Mark Sears is an experienced floor general from the Ohio Bobcats that joins the fray in the SEC ranks with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Sears put together solid production as a full-time starter in his second season of college basketball in 2021-22, averaging a career-best 19.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 4.1 apg, and 1.7 spg on 44.4 percent shooting from the field and 40.8 percent shooting from 3-point land.

He’s got a knack for making things happen off the bounce but is equally dangerous at creating free-throw opportunities as well. He led the MAC this past season in free throws made (190) and attempts (215) while finishing first in free throw percentage (84.9).

His experience should give him a leg up on what looks to be a crowded backcourt for the Crimson Tide in 2022-23. He joins a backcourt that already consists of lead guard Jahvon Quinerly and incoming freshman Jaden Bradley, a highly-rated recruit in their 2022 recruiting class. While there could be a competition for minutes, Sears’ college experience should give him the advantage in the competition.
