Dexter Dennis, 6’5 Guard/Wing, Texas A&M Aggies

Head coach Buzz Williams has made quite the acquisition in former Wichita State Shockers guard Dexter Dennis joining his backcourt with the Texas A&M Aggies. He comes in with quite the defensive pedigree that should turn the tide greatly on both ends of the floor.

Dennis was the AAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021-22 after posting numbers of 8.4 ppg, 5.0 rpg, and 1.6 apg while finishing with career-high numbers in total steals (24) and total blocks (24). His length and athleticism should make quite a combination alongside Tyrece Radford in their backcourt this upcoming season.

While he didn’t have the greatest year shooting the ball, he showed his tenacity with his ability to defend, rebound the ball and fly around for blocks. He ranked in a tie for fifth in the AAC in total rebounds (134) this past season, no small feat given the size differential in the college game among guards, forwards and bigs.

At 6-foot-5, Dennis has the ability to play a number of positions on the floor, a plus in a Buzz Williams-inspired rotation. He’ll be one of four additions to the 2022-23 roster that should make quite the impact with his ability to play with energy on the floor.
