K.J. Williams, 6’10 Forward/Center, LSU Tigers

First-year LSU Tigers head coach Matt McMahon will have quite the overhaul on his hands with six prospects out of the portal and just three returners from a year ago on the 2022-23 roster. One thing that will help is the addition of big man K.J. Williams, one of three inclusions from their Murray State squad from 2021-22.

Williams is one of the best up-and-coming big men to join the SEC ranks out of the OVC. He led the Racers in scoring (18.0 ppg) and rebounds (8.4 rpg) while also notching 1.4 spg on 53.8 percent shooting from the field and 32.7 percent from 3-point range, showing his developed range in an evolving game. He attempted a career-high 137 shots from behind the arc this past year.

He was the 2021-22 OVC Player of the Year as the Racers went unbeaten in conference action at 18-0 and secured both the regular season and conference tournament crowns during a 20-game winning streak on their way to an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Now, Williams looks to lead the way as the Matt McMahon era takes a step into the high-major ranks in the SEC. He’ll be a burden to bear on both ends of the floor for opponents, that’s for sure.
